Celebrating
The Life and Legacy of
David Pettigrew Jr. was born on October 14th, 1940, to the late David and Exie Lee Pettigrew in Saint Stephen, South Carolina. He was called home into eternal rest on March 7th, 2026. He was preceded in death by his son, Anthony Pettigrew.
David attended Russellville High School in Saint Stephen, SC. He was baptized at Saint Stephen Baptist Church at a young age, beginning a lifelong foundation of faith that guided him throughout his journey.
As a young man, David relocated to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where he met the love of his life, Earnestine Cooper, originally from Nesmith, SC. They were united in Holy Matrimony in 1962, and their union was blessed with two children. While in Philadelphia, David completed the first chapter of his professional career with Campbell Drugs and the Philadelphia Housing Authority.
In 1979, David and Earnestine returned home to South Carolina where he began a second career with Albany International in the Felt division. He dedicated over 28 years of loyal service to the company before retiring in 2006. His work ethic, humility, and steady presence left a lasting impression on all who worked alongside him.
David's memories will forever be cherished by his loving wife of 63 years, Earnestine Pettigrew; his daughter, Davette (Mark) Arrington; his daughter-in-law, Maria Pettigrew; his grandchildren, Dortez Deas, Dana (Jovan) Jenkins, Anthony Pettigrew II, DaMara Arrington, and MarDaya Arrington; his great-grandchildren, Javar Jenkins, Javion Jenkins, Dortez (JT) Deas, and Jai (Anthony) Jenkins; his sisters, Mildred P. Cooper, Betty-Lou (Abraham) Ravenell, Ruth P. Gregory and Florence P. (Sam) McHoney; his brother, Raymond Lee (Rebecca) Pettigrew; and a host of "favorite" nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends.
David will be remembered for his timeless "egg" and "jump rope" jokes, gentle spirit, quiet strength, and unwavering devotion to his family. His presence will be deeply missed, but his legacy of love and faith will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
