Kingstree
With deepest sorrow we at Henryhand Funeral Home regret to announce the passing of Daisy Shaw Murray, 95, of Kingstree, SC, widow of John Murray, who passed away on Sunday, August 31, 2025.
Life Reflections
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and adopted mother to some, Daisy Shaw Murray. A cherished resident of Kingstree, South Carolina was born on June 6, 1930. She lived a full life of love, compassion, and unwavering dedication to her family and friends for 95 years. Daisy entered the presence of the Lord on Sunday, August 31, 2025 at her home.
Daisy attended public school in Williamsburg County, and with determination she graduated by finishing night school from Tomlinson High School in 1967.
Daisy was a hardworking woman that worked several jobs: a domestic worker, Anderson Primary School, The Cleaners, Warsaw Manufacturing, BC Moore and Belk. She was known by many as the "BELK LADY". She also expressed her love for and joy through cooking and baking. Our family gatherings included cousins and non relatives as well. We all looked forward to everything on the menu, especially the fried chicken, baked macaroni & cheese, 7-Up Cake and Coconut Pie.
Daisy expressed her kindness and godly spirit to all that she encountered. She enjoyed traveling to visit family and friends. She has gone as far as to a game at the Dodgers Stadium to a game with John Murray, to a play in New York, the Islands and California...etc.
As a dedicated member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, Daisy served on the usher board, communion steward, gospel and senior choirs, and the United Methodist Women. She truly enjoyed church and made sure that her children and grandchildren attended as well.
Daisy was welcomed into the world by her parents, the late Willow Shaw Holiday and Israel Scott. She was the oldest of fourteen children; nine females and five males of Israel Scott. She grew up in the Shaw Corner community.
She was preceded in death by four brothers and three sisters.
Daisy was married to the late John Murray. This union was blessed with five children.
Those who remain from being loved by her and to cherish her memories are: her five children, Vernette (Inez) Murray of Jacksonville, FL, Gilbert (Yvette) Murray of Fontana, CA, Sandra (Andrew) Fruster of Columbia, SC, Cherel "Lib" Murray and Dorothy "Dot" Murray both of Kingstree, SC; her grandchildren, Ester (Octavius) Steeley, Liza Murray, Vernette Murray, Jr. Alexander Murray, Alexandria (Edgard) Revolus, Lloyd Roberts, Christan John Murray, Andrew Fruster, Meshach Fruster, Aminadab Fruster, Allejandra Fruster, Charity (Tyrone) Wagner, Kenneth (Christal) Rush, Vontrell (Adriana) Murray and Nija Nesmith; eighteen great grandchildren; special daughters, Wanda Fulton and Dr. Florence M. Thomas (Lauren and Luretha); special friends, Willie Mae Johnson and Jannie W. McCrea; her siblings, Ella Davis of Seattle, WA, Hazel Bartlette of Central Islip, NY, Phillip (Patricia) Scott of Eustis, FL, Mary (Lorenzo) Dicks of Brooklyn, NY, Martha (Sanders) Griffin of Rochester, NY and Rebecca Fulton of Charlotte, NC; also a host of nieces, nephews (Johnny, Patty, Ricky, Maggie...etc.); neighbors, Freddie, Tricia...etc.); friends, family and church members.
The family will begin receiving friends and family on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, at 308 Giles Street, Kingstree, SC.
