Scranton
With deepest sorrow we at Henryhand Funeral Home regret to announce the passing of Charles Leo Henry, 42, of Scranton SC, who passed away on Friday, August 14, 2026.
Life Reflections
Charles Leo Henry III, affectionately known as "Jay D," was born on August 4, 1984, in Florence, South Carolina, to the late Charles Henry Jr. and the late Valley Mae Henry. He was raised in Scranton, South Carolina, affectionately known as High Hill, a place that held many of his childhood memories and helped shape the man he became.
Charles received his education through the Florence County District 3 School System. At an early age, he began working alongside his father, Billy, where he learned the skills of heating and cooling, HVAC repair, and sheet-metal work. Those early lessons gave him knowledge and skills that he carried with him throughout his life.
"Jay D" was a man who knew how to enjoy life. He loved working with his dad and cousin, Squnice Daniels, doing heating and air-conditioning work. He also enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, eating good food, partying, driving fast, and living life with an adventurous spirit. He could be a bit of a daredevil, always willing to take a chance and enjoy the moment. But beneath that adventurous personality was a heart that cared deeply for others. When someone needed a hand, Charles was often willing to help. "Jay D" took sick very quickly, and God saw fit to call him home.
During his final days, Reverend Pastor Troy Shaw of St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church came to visit Charles, spending time with him in prayer and offering words of comfort, encouragement, and spiritual guidance. Through prayer and fellowship, Reverend Shaw helped Charles draw closer and nearer to God, bringing him spiritual comfort and peace as he prepared for his transition from this earthly life.
During his hospitalization, when his sister Shamir L. Henry was not able to tend to him, his cousins Gigi Singletary and Issaco Singletary remained faithfully by his side and stayed with him until the end. Their presence, love, and devotion during those difficult final days were a testament to the bond of family and ensured that Jay D was surrounded by both love and faith as he prepared to make his journey home.
Those who knew and loved Jay D will remember his personality, his laughter, his adventurous spirit, and the countless memories he created with the people around him. He was a son, brother, father, cousin, uncle, and friend whose presence will be deeply missed.
Charles Leo Henry III was preceded in death by: his beloved parents, Valley M. Henry and Charles Henry Jr.; his sister, Chimere C. Singletary; his uncle, Joe L. Singletary; and his cousin, Angilo Graham.
"Jay D" leaves to cherish his memory: his beloved daughter, Janiyah A. Henry; his sister, Shamir L. Henry; his brother, Jeffrey Burgess; his special niece, Chimere Williams; his special nephews, Jamarin Williams and Ramarin Williams, who shared the same childhood home and many precious memories with him; his cousins, Gigi Singletary and Issaco Singletary, who remained faithfully by his side during his hospitalization; cousins, Nitro and Truck, whom he looked to as brothers; along with his aunts, uncles, extended family, cousins, friends, and all of the loved ones whose lives he touched.
All arrangements and professional services have been entrusted to Henryhand Funeral Home of Lake City, SC. 843-354-2292.
