Life Reflections

"To everything there is a season's and a time to every purpose under the heaven."     Ecclesiastes 3:1 (KJV)

On Thursday, May 14, 2026 at St. Luke's Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri, the Lord called our loved one from labor to rest.

Charles Edward Henderson was born in Williamsburg County, South Carolina on August 21, 1957. He was the son of the late Mr. John Henry Henderson and Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Singletary Henderson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by: his sister, Alma Burgess; his uncles, Ernest Singletary and Dave Burgess; his aunt, Carrie Hubbard; and a best fried who was like a brother to him, Erneal "Winky" Cooper.

Charles received his formal education in the public schools of Williamsburg County. He graduated from Kingstree Senior High School, Class of 1975 in Kingstree, South Carolina.

Charles had a love for cars, motorcycles and playing the guitar. He began working at Charles Tisdale Garage in Kingstree, South Carolina, where he worked for many years before relocating to Kansas City, Missouri.

Affectionately known as "Charlie" in Kansas City, Missouri, Charles was one of the founders of Corvette Connected KC, Inc., Kansas City's first and oldest African American Corvette Club. He worked for Ray's Mobile for approximately 25 years before taking over the shop and renaming it Grumpy 10/10 Garage, where he worked as a master mechanic until his passing.

Charles was known for his kind spirit, calm demeanor and generosity, often helping customers without charging them for mechanical work. He was deeply loved and respected by all who knew him.

Charles leaves to cherish his precious memories forever: his loving children, Monika Gamble of Blythewood, SC, Antoine (Nicole) Gamble of Lake City, SC, Travis (Cheryl) Wilson of Myrtle Beach, SC, Auntea McCollough of Concord, NC, Sherrilyn Pressley of Hemingway, SC, Andre Henderson of Salters, SC, Kimberley (Keita) Houston of Darlington, SC, Joshua Williams of Kansas City, MO and Lakeisha (Clarence) Huell of Salters, SC; his siblings, Melvin Harrison, Carolyn Shaw and Betty (Henry) King all of Kingstree, SC, Mary (Richard) Henderson-Levy and Leroy Henderson both of New Haven, CT, Marvin (Carol) Henderson of Florence, SC and Dolores (Ernest) Shaw of Irmo, SC; his lifetime friend and brother, Reverend Dr. Frankie White of Kingstree, SC; 27 seven grandchildren; 1 great grandchild; extended family and dear friends; along with a host of nieces and nephews who loved their "Uncle Boo Boo" dearly.
