In Loving Remembrance of Boris

"Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints." ~Psalms 116:15

On Sunday, March 22, 2026, in Temple Hills, Maryland, Brother Boris Lorenzo McFarland heard the voice of his Master calling him home to eternal rest, and he peacefully answered—from labor to reward.

Brother Boris Lorenzo McFarland, beloved son of the late Mr. Nathaniel McFarland and Rev. Doris Marie Hicks-Gamble, and stepson of the late Mr. Cornelius (Skinner) Gamble, was born on August 11, 1963, in Georgetown, South Carolina.

He was preceded in death by his siblings, Rosslynn Jennifer "Cindy" McFarland and Jerrlynn "Gail" McFarland, as well as his stepbrothers, Ronald "Chuckie" Gamble and Jeffery Gamble.

The late Deacon Israel Hicks and Mrs. Florence A. Hicks, Boris's maternal grandparents, played a pivotal and formative role in his early upbringing. Boris was reared in a Christian home where strong biblical values and principles were instilled. As Scripture reminds us, "Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old, he will not depart from it" (Proverbs 22:6). At an early age, he accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior and was baptized at First Calvary Missionary Baptist Church in Georgetown, South Carolina, under the leadership of the late Rev. Frank B. Vereen. In his youth, he faithfully participated in the Junior Choir, Sunday School, and Vacation Bible School.

During his younger years, Boris also experienced a meaningful spiritual encounter at a youth service in North Carolina under the leadership of Apostle Moses Townsend and the late Rev. Ann Townsend. In later years, although he was unable to attend church in person, he remained steadfast in his faith, faithfully joining online services each Sunday with First Calvary Missionary Baptist Church and Anointed Word Christian Center in Georgetown, South Carolina.

Boris was educated in the Georgetown County School District and graduated from Winyah High School in 1982. While in high school, he developed a love for music, particularly chorus, and proudly participated in the advanced Show Chorus under the direction of the late Mrs. Josephine C. Howard. Following graduation, he enlisted in the United States Army, where he served for several years.

After completing his military service, Boris worked diligently as a paralegal and later in the field of pharmacy in Maryland until his health declined.

Boris had a lifelong passion for sports. During his high school years, he played both football and basketball, and he remained an enthusiastic fan of the Washington Redskins. He enjoyed spirited football conversations and friendly rivalries with family and friends, especially on Facebook. His love for the game and vibrant personality made every discussion memorable.

For 42 blessed years, Boris was united in marriage to his devoted wife, Paulette Clarke McFarland. Through every season of life—through sickness and health, for richer or poorer—she stood faithfully by his side, honoring her vows with unwavering love and care. Now, having finished his race, Boris has claimed his heavenly reward. Though he has departed from this earthly life, we take comfort in knowing he continues to cheer us on from the heavenly stands.

Rest in peace, our beloved Boris Lorenzo McFarland.
