Greeleyville
With deepest sorrow we at Henryhand Funeral Home regret to announce the passing of Bettye L. Warren, 86, of Greeleyville, SC, who passed away on Friday, April 24, 2026.
Life Reflections
I have fought a good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge will award to me on that day, and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearance. 2 Timothy 4: 1-8
Bettye Louise Warren, daughter of the late Reverend Preston David Warren and Mary Broughton Warren was born April 20, 1940, in Trio, South Carolina. Bettye quietly departed this life surrounded by "Her Boys," as she would say on April 24, 2026, following an extended illness.
Bettye was a 1959 graduate of Williamsburg County Training School in Greeleyville, South Carolina. She attended Allen University in Columbia, South Carolina. Later, Bettye pursued a career in Nursing at Brooklyn Hospital School of Nursing in Brooklyn, New York. Bettye spent most of her adult life in New York, where she was employed with the United Postal Service for 32 years.
Being reared in a Christian environment at an early age, she accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior, where she was an active member of Howard Grove Holiness Church, Kingstree, South Carolina. She served faithfully on the choir, usher board, and participated in the Sunday School class.
Bettye was the Past Worthy Matron of Queen Esther Chapter #8, Bronx, NY. She had an enduring faith commitment to making the world a better place and love of family are the tenets of her life. Other joys were also brought to her life through taking care of the elderly, young children, reading the Bible daily, listening to music, and watching wrestling on Monday and Thursday nights. She had a passion for cooking and braiding young girls and elderly people's hair.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by: five siblings, Lafayette Warren, David Warren, Isaac Warren, William (WJ) Warren, and Freddie Warren.
Those who remain to grow from being loved by her and to continue her legacy are: her sons, Michael Warren of Greenville, South Carolina, Melvin (Angie) Warren of Hartsville, South Carolina and Kenneth Washington Jr. of Tucson, Arizona; two sisters, Mary Alice Mason and Shirley O. Cross; one brother, Bishop Willie J. Warren; six grandchildren, Sharia M. Atkinson of Florence, South Carolina, Melvin Trevon Warren of New York, Kenisha L. Mattox of Ludowici, Georgia, Kenneth DeMontre' Washington of Midway, Georgia, Elizabeth Nicole Warren of Florence, South Carolina and Mykel Tyler-Ann Warren of Charlotte, North Carolina, eight great grandchildren, two great-great granddaughters; a host of nieces and nephews, several adopted daughters, sons, godchildren, cousins, and friends.
All arrangements and professional services have been entrusted to Henryhand Funeral Home of Kingstree, SC. 843-354-2292.
