Brown
Jan 8, 1934 — Mar 16, 2026
Kingstree
With deepest sorrow we at Henryhand Funeral Home regret to announce the passing of Bessie Johnson Brown, 92 of Kingstree, SC, who passed away on Monday, March 16, 2026.
Life Reflections
"God saw the road was getting rough and the hills were hard to climb; He gently closed our mother's eyes and said, 'Peace be thine.'"
Bessie Johnson Brown was born on January 8, 1934, to the late Henry and Josephine Pinckney Johnson. She entered into eternal rest on Monday, March 16, 2026. A dedicated worker and lifelong learner, Bessie attended Hickory Hill School. She spent many years serving her community, first as a cook at Sara's Cafe in Kingstree, SC, and later as a skilled sewing machine operator for Oneita Knitting Mill.
Bessie's life was defined by her unwavering faith. She gave her life to Christ and served the church faithfully until her health declined. She was a devoted member of both the Missionary and Stewardess Boards, where her contributions were deeply valued.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Brown Jr,; her children, Patricia A. Brown and Raymond Brown; her sisters, Katie Hannah and Hester Cunningham; her brothers, Henry Jr., Keith, Melvin, Willie Lee, and Jeff Johnson.
Bessie's legacy of love and strength remains with those who survive her: her children, William (Luetta) Brown III, Dr. Josephine (Robert) Brown Abraham, Henry L. Brown, and Barbara B. Smalls. She also leaves to cherish her memory: her grandchildren, Jessica L. Johnson, Porschia V. Brown, Gabriella B. Walker, Felicia M. Brown, Lanette A. Brown, Monique Brown, Mya C. Abraham, Maurice Blanks and Patrick Deon Brown, whom she raised as her own following the passing of his mother. Her memory is further honored by her great-grandchildren; her brother, Shirp Johnson; one sister-in-law, Sara B. Morant, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and dear friends.
The family is not receiving any visitors at this time, but please keep the family in your prayers.
