Barbara Ann Pendergrass Epps, affectionately known as "Sweet Barbara" and lovingly called "Barbara Jean" by family and friends, passed into eternal rest on Thursday, June 11, 2026, at the age of 59. A lifelong resident of Kingstree, South Carolina, Barbara's warm spirit, loving heart, and joyful presence will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Barbara was born on November 21, 1966, in Williamsburg County, Kingstree, South Carolina, to Daniel William Pendergrass and Viola "Mickey" Pendergrass. She was raised with strong family values and developed a caring nature that would become the hallmark of her life.

Barbara received her education through the Williamsburg County School System and graduated from Kingstree Senior High School. She later furthered her education by attending Williamsburg Technical College.

A devoted caregiver, Barbara dedicated much of her life to serving others through her work as a Certified Nursing Assistant and Home Health Aide. Throughout her career, she worked faithfully at Kingstree Nursing Facility, Lake Moultrie Nursing Facility, Home Aide of Georgetown, South Carolina, Ruth Louis Adult Day Care, and numerous other healthcare and service positions. Her compassionate spirit and dedication to helping others left a lasting impact on countless patients, families, and coworkers.

Barbara was united in marriage to Leander Carey Epps, Sr. in 2007 with whom she shared many cherished years with. Together they built a loving family and created memories that will forever be treasured.

Barbara found great joy in music, dancing, and spending time with family and friends. Whether at a family gathering, celebrating special occasions, or simply enjoying the company of loved ones, she had a way of bringing laughter, warmth, and happiness wherever she went. Her sweet disposition earned her the affectionate nickname "Sweet Barbara," a name that perfectly reflected her gentle heart and loving personality.

Loved ones left to cherish her precious memories are: her children, Yickah Shiphrah Israel (Malakhi J.), Sidney Terrell Shaw, and Coray Leander Epps Jr. (Alexis); her treasured grandchildren, Chana R. Israel, Anissa D. Israel, Amir M. Israel, Mataya I. Israel, Nakaria L. Epps, Joshua Scott, Bryce Scott, Amber Scott, and Jaron; children she reared as her own, Veronica Carr and Akesha Albany; her loving parents, Daniel William Pendergrass and Viola "Mickey" Pendergrass; her brothers, Nathaniel Pendergrass and Rodney Pendergrass (Loretta); her beloved sister, Joella Israel "Julie"; three sisters-in-law; four brothers-in-law; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and dear friends who will forever cherish her memory.

Barbara was preceded in death by: her beloved husband, Leander Carey Epps, Sr.; her granddaughter, Ivana Baht Israel; and her brother, Kenneth Barr.

Though our hearts are heavy with loss, we rejoice in the many memories Barbara leaves behind. Her legacy of love, kindness, compassion, and devotion to family will continue to live on through all those whose lives she touched.
