Arthur
Dickens
Apr 4, 1963 — Jan 5, 2025
Georgetown
With deepest sorrow we at Henryhand Funeral Home regret to announce the passing of Arthur Dickens, 61, formerly of Georgetown, SC, a retired Army Veteran, who passed away on Sunday, January 5, 2025.
Life Reflections
Mr. Arthur Leonard Dickens, as I am affectionally known as Art, transitioned from my earthly home to my new home on January 5, 2025, while in
Columbia, SC. I was born on April 4, 1963, in Hartford, Connecticut to Mrs. Will Mae (Dickens) Duncan and Mr. Arthur Lee Duncan. I was adopted and raised by Ms. Maggie J. Isaac whom I affectionally referred to as my mom; she preceded me in death and is waiting for my arrival. My biological mother, Will Mae Duncan, my brothers, Raymond Duncan and Charles Dickens, and lastly the love of my life, Annie Bell White, also preceded me in death.
I graduated from AI Prince Technical High School in Hartford, CT. After high school I joined the United States Army in 1983 and received an Honorable Discharge in 1985. After leaving the Army I was gainfully employed by several companies, which included Peddinghaus Corporation, Georgetown County Environmental Services Division, Screen Tight, Prince George Nursing Home, Lakes of Litchfield, Nucor Steel, and MMP. Prior to the decline in my health, I held the position as a painter with Envirosep located in Georgetown County.
Ahead of my transition I made the decision to relocate to Columbia, South Carolina with my daughter and grandson to live the remainder of my life. I want to personally thank my cousins, Troy and Rochelle, along with my daughter and grandson for all their support during my time in Columbia.
If you knew me, you knew I was a diehard and unwavering Dallas Cowboy fan. I loved to talk trash to Gary and Maurice when we played the Panthers, taunt Ken about the Philadelphia Eagles, and harass my late love Annie and her brother Morris when we played the New York Giants. I loved cooking my famous lasagna and enjoying a nice steak and ribs with my home-made mashed potatoes. I did not care for instant boxed potatoes (LOL). I shared a unique bond with those close to me and will miss each of you dearly.
I leave to cherish my priceless memories, my father, Mr. Arthur L. Duncan (Priscilla) of Georgetown, SC; my children, Tanisha Newton and Shanell (Dominique) Robinson both of Hartford, CT; my bonus children, Shamaine L.C. White of Columbia, SC and my son, Shakim D. White of Myrtle Beach, SC. I leave my grandchildren, Savon White (whom I called Snoop) of Columbia SC, Chylin White of Andrews, SC, Kemani Haye, Aniyah Robinson, Daekai Safford, Daequan Robinson and Grayln Weatherington all of Hartford, CT, Deon Kelly of Brooklyn, NY and Aaron Lucas of Myrtle Beach, SC. I also leave my sisters, Patricia Dickens-Knight (Lorenzo) of Windsor, CT, Sharon Jenkins (Anthony) Hartford, CT, Merlene McClendon (Marvin) of Riviera Beach, FL and Latashia Duncan of Andrews, SC. The brothers I leave are Terry Deas, of Raleigh, NC, Vida Deas, Tyron Deas, Larry Dickens, and Bobby Dickens all of Hartford, CT. I leave behind my uncle and aunts, Junior (Dothsteen) Duncan, of West Columbia, SC, Mary Williams and Peggy Moultrie both of Georgetown, SC, Barbara Gordon-Cobb and Irene McCullough both of Ocala, FL, Rosa Burney of Fort McCoy, FL, Inez Faye Burney of Douglasville, GA and Carrie Betty Woods of Atlanta, GA; I leave my love with my mother-in-law, Lila Heard and brother-in-law Ervin (Deborah) Heard, Sr. both Georgetown, SC; special cousins, whom I loved as if they were my siblings, James (Maldonia) Nesmith of Conway, SC and Pearlie Duncan of McClellanville. I hope that my special niece and nephews, Leteisha Heard, Terrance McClendon, Korey Jenkins, Sam Shell, Jr., James White and Quentin Dickens, will cherish the relationship that we had. Lastly, I leave my everlasting memories with all my other relatives and friends.
The family is receiving friends and family at 81 Chinaberry Place, Georgetown, SC.
All arrangements and professional services have been entrusted to Henryhand Funeral Home of Andrews, SC. 843-354-2292.
