In Loving Memory of Mrs. Alafair Graham Grayson

Colossians 2:5 reminds us, "For though I be absent in the flesh, yet am I with you in the spirit, joying and beholding your order, and the steadfastness of your faith in Christ."

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved Mrs. Alafair Graham Grayson, affectionately known as "Sister." Alafair peacefully left this world on Wednesday, September 18, 2024, at the age of 93. She was a remarkable woman whose humble spirit, boundless love, and unwavering kindness touched the lives of all who knew her.

Born on December 22, 1930, in Andrews, South Carolina, Alafair dedicated her life to caring for others. She epitomized compassion, always prioritizing the needs of her family and friends. Her home was a sanctuary, with an open door and a warm meal waiting for anyone who visited. A gifted cook, Alafair found joy in preparing delicious meals, often sharing her culinary creations with neighbors and family, ensuring no one went hungry.

Alafair had a unique talent for making everyone feel special. She welcomed all with open arms, treating each person as if they were her own child, fostering a sense of belonging and love. Her positive outlook on life inspired those around her, and her laughter was a soothing balm to weary souls.

Beyond her nurturing spirit, Alafair was a true giver at heart. She dedicated her time and energy to helping others, always seeking ways to uplift those around her. Her selflessness and generosity knew no bounds, and her legacy of kindness will forever be etched in our hearts.

Alafair was the last surviving child of the late Willie and Mary Graham. She was preceded in death by her parents, Willie and Mary Graham; her husband, Edell Grayson; and her siblings: Viola, Bertha, Trudy Mae, Felder, Elijah, Willie James, Rev. L. Junior, and John.

On December 25, 1951, Alafair married Edell Grayson, and their union was blessed with six children. She worked at Oneita Knitting Mill in Andrews for many years, contributing to her community and family.

At an early age, Alafair accepted Christ as her personal Savior. She was a devoted member of Asbury United Methodist Church in the Warsaw Community of Andrews, South Carolina, where she served faithfully in various capacities.

Alafair leaves behind a loving family, including her six children: Vernon (Terry) Grayson of

Rochester, NY, Willie Theron (Paula) Grayson of Gainesville, GA, Pearl (William) Barnett of Rochester, NY, Violet (Stephon) Walker of West Columbia, SC, Larry Grayson of Bridgeport, CT; and Gerald (Alisa) Grayson of Braselton, GA; she is also survived by twenty-two grandchildren, including two she reared in her home: Dedrick Grayson of Norfolk, VA and Kenya (Demetrius) Stroman of Lexington, SC; forty-one great-grandchildren; two great great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends who will carry on her spirit of love, humility, and compassion.

Alafair will be deeply missed but will always be remembered for the warmth she brought into our lives.

The family is receiving friends and family at her late residence, 99 Pappa Loop, Andrews, SC.
