Ms. Vivian Lee Mouzon, daughter of the late Mrs. Bernice T. Addison and Mr. Lester Mouzon, was born on August 26, 1942 in St. Stephen, South Carolina. She departed this life on Monday, January 17, 2011 at Roper Hospital, Charleston, South Carolina.
Ms. Mouzon was educated in the Public School System of Duval County, Jacksonville, FL. She graduated from Northwestern High School in 1960. After graduation, Ms. Mouzon relocated to New York City where she continued her education at Bronx Community College.
In New York, “Wibber”, as she was affectionately called by her family, met and married the late Joseph Seymour Bishop. From this union two children were born.
In 1972, she relocated back to St. Stephen, SC where she became a member of Allen AME Church. She later moved her membership to St. Stephen Baptist Church where she served on the Nurses Auxiliary Board.
Ms. Mouzon was employed with Reliance Electric Company, St. Stephen, SC. She later completed certification as a Certified Nursing Assistant at Trident Technical College and worked throughout the Berkeley County area as a Private Nurse.
Vivian enjoyed sewing, canning, cooking and spending time with family and friends. She was known as the matriarch of the family. Spending time with all the children of the family brought her joy. She was preceded in death by her brother Barry Mouzon.
Loved ones left to cherish her fond memories are her loving children: Gretchen Wallace of St. Stephen, SC and Bruce Elliot Bishop of Atlanta, GA; one sister, Mrs. Collen Heyward of Atlanta, GA; one brother, Mr. Walt and Mrs. Anne Mouzon of Columbia, SC; seven grandchildren: Sharifa, Rhea, Taylor, Jahtia, Stephen, Bria and Benn, one grandson reared in the home, Quillan Keith Wallace; three great grandchildren, Niara, Peyton, Jaylen; uncle and aunts, Rev. Benjamin F. and Mrs. Naomi Addison of Jacksonville, FL, and Mrs. Ruth Mouzon of Stephen, SC; one sister-in-law, Mrs. Thelma Bishop of Elmont, NY; three nieces, Carol Dockery, Marguerite R. and Laura Heyward; five nephews: Kenneth and Jeffery Mouzon, John T. Heyward, Barry and Rodney Mouzon; special friends, Ola, Bernie and Bootsie; special daughters, Trish, Wanda, Pinky and Minnie; along with a host of extended family and friends.
